Equipment

SCRiPTS group is equipped for the synthesis, processing and characterization of solutions/inks, colloidal ceramic nanoparticles, powders, and thin films. Additional equipment, particularly for the microstructural characterization of nanomaterials and device fabrication, is also available through research collaborations within the university and with external partners. Contact us for specific analysis and more info.

Characterization and processing

  • Viscosimeter (Brookfield DVE + UL adapter)
  • Surface tension and contact angle analysis (Kruss DSA 30) measuring in sessile and pendant drop mode, dispersive and polar component of surface tensions, surface free energy of substrates, wetting envelopes and work of adhesion (more information)
  • Automatic high precision dip coating equipment (KSV Instruments Ltd)
  • Domino Macrojet single nozzle elektromagnetic printhead (90 µm orifice) and Microfab single nozzle piezo-electric printhead (30 µm orifice), both integrated on a Roland A4 xy plotter, interface software written by Cambridge University.
  • Dimatix Materials Printer (DMP 2831): fully integrated 12-nozzle piezo-electric printhead (3 pl droplet size) using disposable Samba cartridges equipped with dropwatcher and possibility to adapt waveforms (more information)
  • Spin coating
  • Calibrated TZF-furnaces with atmospheric control (up to 1800 °C)
  • Netsch STA 449E3 Jupiter
  • Through collaboration with the department of solid state chemistry: XRD, pole figures, ellipsometry, FEG-SEM + EDX ... 
  • 200 kV Cs-corrected transmission electron microscope (Jeol 2200FS). The microscope is equipped for bright field imaging with a point resolution of 1.2 Å, it has a STEM unit, and EDS module for elemental analysis and an omega filter for EELS measurements.
  • Dual beam focused ion beam (FEI Nova 600 Nanolab Dual-Beam FIB) which combines a scanning electron microscope (SEM) with a focused ion beam (FIB) system, allowing simultaneous imaging and milling structures.
